I’ve always gone to the dentist at least twice a year. So I’ve kept up with my things that need to be done in my mouth as it’s been needed. I put off some crowns for a while. I’ve got a mouthful of amalgam fillings, and I knew that some of them were cracked and it was just gonna be a matter of time before that they would just fall apart, my tooth was so thin. So I did need, like, three or four crowns and it wasn’t any emergency, but I knew eventually that they would have to be taken care of. They worked with me and I said, “I don’t know that I wanna do two at one time. Let’s do one now and another six months, I’ll do another one.” And so, that was my first thing that I came to the office with. I have nice teeth, but because I’ve had a lot of dental work in the past with a lot of fillings and they’re starting to deteriorate, and now I’m all caught up. I mean, everything is fine in my mouth now. We’ve replaced all that. That was a big thing is I knew I was gonna have a bunch of dental work to be done as I needed it because it was coming up.

I started looking at invisible aligners for straightening my teeth back in probably mid-2022, and this was before this office did SureSmile. Invisalign was doing and still is, but was doing a really good job of promoting their product through TV and radio and all that kind of stuff. And I was like, “Wow.” I’ve never wanted braces. I’ve never wanted traditional braces. I don’t like the way they look on anybody who’s ever had them. They just are not a flattering image. And to anybody who’s been forced to wear them, I’m sure would agree. And I also know that, you know, with a long history of not taking care of my teeth, having all of those things, like, stuck to your teeth and all the wires and stuff, like, it was a recipe for disaster.

My teeth were very crooked to the point where… and so squished together, that when I was asked by the hygienist here, “Well, how often do you floss?” Well, I don’t. And she goes, “Well, what do you mean you don’t? Like, you’re supposed to floss. Like, that’s the one of two things you have to do to take care of your mouth is floss.” And I told her, like, my teeth were so squished together that if you try to floss, my teeth would cut the floss. I wanted to straighten my teeth, one, for better oral hygiene, knowing that I needed to floss, I got to brush, all that kind of stuff. But also having a neat and orderly set of teeth in your mouth, it’s a confidence booster. And I was very self-conscious about teeth.

I made it to 35 years old with very crooked, very not okay teeth. And if you look a lot at a lot of pictures of me from before I did the whole program, all of my smiles, like, there was no teeth in my smile. There are a lot more photos now of me smiling and my teeth are out because I’m proud of the work that’s gone into them and I’m excited to show them off because there are people in my life that know how bad they were for as much as I tried to hide it. And they see them now and they’re like, “Oh man. Those are straight.” Mm-hmm. And I can floss them and it’s not a chore anymore. It’s maybe not the most enjoyable thing in the world, but it’s definitely a lot better than it was.
